Balsam er ofte den avsluttende delen av hårvasken, og påføres enten etter sjamponeringen eller etter [hårkuren](https://apotea.no/category/9961/harinpackning). Når du påfører [sjampo](https://apotea.no/category/9959/schampo) i håret åpner det opp hårets ytterste lag for å fjerne fett og smuss som har festet seg der. Derfor er det bra å bruke balsam etter sjamponeringen. Balsamen lukker igjen laget og gjør overflaten glatt og blank igjen. Balsam bidrar dessuten med mer fuktighet og gjør at håret er mykt og blankt over lengre tid.

## Balsam for ulike hårtyper

Det finnes ulike typer balsam med ulike egenskaper, og hvilken du bør velge avhenger av hva akkurat ditt hår trenger. Tørt hår trenger fuktighet, og da er en fuktighetsgivende balsam bra å bruke. Når man har tørt hår er det også ekstra bra å bruke leave-in balsam. Du som har problemer med at håret ofte blir fett bør heller bruke en mild balsam og satse på å vaske håret sjeldnere. Har du tynt hår og ønsker mer volum finnes det slike alternativer som bidrar med økt volum til håret.
